Welcome to St. Louis Hills
Country living in the city. That was the original pitch in the 1930s. It still holds up.
When developer Cyrus Crane Willmore began platting St. Louis Hills in 1929, he had a specific vision: tree-lined residential streets for families, churches and schools throughout, open green spaces in parks, and English-inspired architecture that would age with dignity. Nearly a century later, walking through St. Louis Hills feels like evidence that he got it exactly right.
The homes here are among the most architecturally cohesive in all of St. Louis. Tudor revivals from the 1940s with dark brown timbering and stone archways. Brick colonials with manicured hedges. Streets named Nottingham, Devonshire, and Tamm that hint at the neighborhood's original English aesthetic. Most of these homes were built between the 1930s and 1950s and are beautifully maintained by homeowners who take the neighborhood's character seriously. Once residents arrive in St. Louis Hills, they tend not to leave, which is why inventory is consistently tight and why buyers who find the right property here know to move decisively.
At the center of it all is Francis Park, a 60-acre park donated to the city in 1916 by Governor David Francis and developed by the WPA in 1935. The park is the community's living room: Sunday Serenades fill it with live music through the summer months, Art in the Park draws 10,000 visitors each fall, and the Rockwell Beer Garden has become one of the most beloved gathering spots in south city. Ted Drewes Frozen Custard on Chippewa has been a St. Louis institution since the 1940s. Some things are worth standing in line for.

What It’s Like to Live in St. Louis Hills
Chippewa Street and Hampton Avenue are the neighborhood's commercial anchors, and between them they cover everything a resident needs. Salt and Smoke on Hampton has earned a serious reputation for barbecue. Ted Drewes on Chippewa has been a St. Louis frozen custard institution since the 1940s and the line is always worth it. The Royale is a neighborhood bar and kitchen with the kind of low-key regulars that tell you a place has real roots in the community.
Francis Park keeps the neighborhood social through every season: pickleball courts, a lily pond, sculpture tours, summer concerts, and the Rockwell Beer Garden under amber string lights. Willmore Park adds another 100 acres of green space with fishing lakes, softball fields, and tennis courts. Interstate 44 provides quick access to the rest of the metro and downtown St. Louis is about 15 minutes away.
St. Louis Hills has the feel of a neighborhood that was built with intention and has been cared for the same way ever since. The people who live here know what they have. And they don't tend to let it go easily.

"My wife and I had an amazingly smooth experience working with Garcia Properties. In addition to being first-time homebuyers, we also went through the entire process remotely. Despite these challenges, Garcia took the time to get to know us, learn our preferences and budget, send us detailed video walkthroughs, and sent us homes they thought would be good fits. And when it came time to make offers, negotiate, and close, their deep local knowledge and experience meant that we always felt comfortable at each step."
